Rangers got back to winning ways yesterday with an emphatic 11-0 win over Forfar Farmington in Scottish Building Society SWPL 1. A hat-trick from Sam Kerr accompanied goals from Lizzie Arnot, Zoe Ness, Brogan Hay, Clare Gemmel and Sonia O’Neill meant the Light Blue’s came away with three points and a double-figure score-line.
It was a dream day for Sam Kerr as she bagged her first professional hat-trick, alongside a double from Lizzie Arnot and Zoe Ness.
After Wednesday night’s blowing defeat to rival club Celtic, it was the perfect response from Malky Thomson’s side to get back to winning ways.
Rangers now sit second in the table, with 13-time winners Glasgow City holding onto first. This season – for the first time – the two clubs who finish at the top, will receive a place in the UEFA Champions League for the following season. Brianna Westrup will be hoping to lead her squad into Europe but will have to get results from City and Celtic if they want to fight for their right.
That fight for a place is only round the corner for Rangers, as they are set to host top-spot City at Auchenhowie next Sunday.
Rangers’ Assistant Head Coach, Kevin Murphy complimented his group’s performance after a disappointing night at Parkhead on Wednesday:
“It was a terrific performance, obviously coming off the disappointing result mid-week, it was all about reactions today. I think you could see that today with the performances the players put in and they were relentless really from the first minute to the last”
