Charlotte Worthington won a BMX freestyle gold medal on her Olympic debut, as Team GB’s gold medal count increases.
Worthington’s skills won over judges as after a disappointing error in her first run, she was able score a whopping 97.5 in her second. After adding both a front and back flip onto her 360 backflip She walked away with the gold.
Worthington was able to beat Hannah Roberts, the 19-year-old three time world champion from the US by 1.4 points. Roberts’s opening display included her landing a back flip and a tailspin to earn her 96.1 points.
The 25-year-old competed in her first World Cup only two years into her competitive career and has now become an Olympic champion. Her gold medal as well as her teammate Declan Brooks’ bronze means that Britain has won a medal in all BMX events at this year’s Olympics.
